The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has referred two unnamed Police Constables, currently serving in the Jimeta Police Division of the Adamawa State Command, to the Force Provost for disciplinary actions due to their misconduct during the convention and election exercise organised by the National Union of Adamawa State Students (NUADSS) on September 4th and 5th, 2023.
The Policemen were captured in a viral video on social media escorting the car of the newly elected President of the Students Union.
However, in response to this incident, the Police Headquarters stated that the two Policemen exceeded their assigned duties and the intended purpose of their deployment at the Students Union event. The headquarters deemed their actions as unacceptable and not representative of the values upheld by the Police Force.
Taking to his verified platform on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that both the Policemen and their superiors had been summoned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for appropriate action.
Adejobi expressed, “We are committed to maintaining professionalism and upholding the dignity of the Nigeria Police Force. Regarding the recent incident involving two Constables escorting a student union president in Adamawa State, their actions were unacceptable and do not represent the values of our force.”
He went on to elaborate, “The officers, who are attached to Jimeta Divisional Police Command, along with their superiors, have been summoned to the Force Headquarters for appropriate action. It’s important to note that they were deployed to maintain peace and security during the convention and electoral process organised by the National Union of Adamawa State Students (NUADSS) on 4th and 5th of September, 2023. Their actions were not in line with the purpose for which they were deployed. They have both been referred to the Force Provost for further disciplinary actions.”
