Nigerian Police Force Spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi took to his X (Twitter) handle on Monday to establish the fact that he has never, in his entire career so far, taken bribes or anything related to it.
Adejobi had posted on his official X handle to remind Nigerians not to make any payments before being granted bail, as it was free.
“Police administrative bail is free. If anyone demands bail money, you too (must) demand an invoice or receipt to prove payment. If he can’t issue it, don’t pay. That is a fraud. I have said this severally. Thanks,” he wrote.
The post seemed to irk some Nigerians, including a curious user who took it a bit further by asking the Police PRO to swear by his “village deity” that he is innocent of any form of bribery and corruption in the force.
In reaction, Adejobi affirmed that he had never collected a bribe before, adding that it was a “ridiculous” practise he would rather not be a part of as a”crowned prince” that he is.
“I have answered this. PR is in me. I joined NIPR in 2004 before I joined the police in 2005. I have been a PR man before I even applied to join the police. I even reject gifts. Many people on Twitter have been willing to recharge my phone, but I appeal to them not to do so.
“Those who know me know I reject gifts, let alone bribes. I am a crowned prince of Owu, so it’s ridiculous to take a bribe. If you do well, Nigerians are very nice and ready to appreciate you and bless you in all areas if you are a nice officer,” he went on to explain.
