Prof. Bags Jail Term For Falsifying Election Results

A state high court sitting in Akwa-Ibom has sentenced Professor Peter Ogban of the University of Calabar to three years imprisonment for fraudulently manipulating the Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial election results in 2019 which led to the declaration of Senator Goodswill Akpabio as the winner.

This follows after INEC had taken Ogban to court on a two-count charge of fraudulently tampering with the election results in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party during the 2019 General Election in Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District.

DailyTrust had reported that Prof. Ogban had confessed before the court how results were falsified to give the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC), an unfair advantage over the opposition. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP’s candidate, Chris Ekpenyong, a former deputy governor in Akwa Ibom State, defeated Mr Akpabio (now Minister of Niger Delta Affairs) in the election which was marred by pockets of violence.
