Nigerian rapper Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, popularly known as Zlatan Ibile, has attributed the turning point in his career to the collaborative song “My Body,” which he recorded with Olamide in 2017.
Zlatan Ibile expressed gratitude to Olamide, the founder of YBNL (Yahoo Boy No Laptop) record label, stating that receiving a verse from Olamide was life-changing.
In a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, Zlatan shared the story of how he persistently reached out to Olamide for a collaboration through social media direct messages. Despite facing initial disappointments, the collaboration eventually materialised, and they recorded the song “My Body,” which contributed significantly to Zlatan Ibile’s rise to stardom.
Zlatan Ibile highlighted that he initially expected the collaboration to be a rap song, given his focus on rap at the time. However, Olamide surprised him by opting for an Afrobeats song, a strategic decision that played a crucial role in making Zlatan Ibile an instant star.
The rapper emphasised the impact of Olamide’s support on his career trajectory, showcasing the influential role collaborations and mentorship can play in the music industry.
