Heavyweight Nigerian rappers, Folarin Falana also known as Falz the Badh guy and Olanrewaju Ogunmefun popularly known as Vector have dissed the country’s Electoral Commission boss in a new single.
The collaboration between the two hit musicians titled ‘Yakubu’ is titled after the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu and is a cry for the nation following the recently concluded elections.
With lyrics like ‘Mr Yakubu, Ę ma ń se bi fraudster’ meaning ‘Mr Yabuku, You are acting like a fraudster’ in the Yoruba language to ‘what did you do with the 300 billion received from the government?’ The rappers questioned the integrity of the system and lamented about the commissions failed promise to transmit the results of the elections in real-time ultimately ripping the nation of a free and fair election.
Recall that several citizens including celebrities weighed in on the several issues they encountered while exercising their civic rights, from reports of tardiness of the INEC officials to ballot snatching, voter intimidation and violence orchestrated by thugs.
Yabuku‘ is Falz’s second official single for 2023 and is a follow up to the previously released ‘Owa‘ featuring Tekno. The award winning rapper is not new to activism both physically, online and creatively through his music. Recall, in 2018 Falz put out the controversial hit song ‘This is NIGERIA’ highlighting all of the nations failures and inconsistencies and it was ultimately ban on radio and television.
