The Nigerian Senate has passed the 2025 Appropriations Bill, totalling ₦54.9 trillion.
The budget was approved in the third reading during plenary on Thursday, February 13, 2025, following the submission of a report by Senator Adeola Olamilekan, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Appropriations.
The report was presented following a motion introduced by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele upon the Senate’s return from an executive session.

Senator Adeola noted that the budget was boosted by ₦700 billion to fund underfunded projects in President Bola Tinubu’s original proposal. This includes a fresh contribution of $200 million (approximately ₦300 billion) to bridge financial shortfalls caused by the US government’s withdrawal of global health support following the termination of USAID programmes under the Trump Administration.
Senator Adeola reported that revenue-collecting institutions like the Nigeria Customs Service, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and other government-owned firms produced a total of ₦4.7 trillion in additional revenue.
The Senate passed the Appropriations Bill after going over the Joint Committee on Appropriations report clause by clause.
