The Red Chamber has passed a vote of confidence in the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and other principal officers, putting to rest the alleged impeachment moves against them.

The confidence vote followed a motion sponsored by Abdul Ningi, the senator representing Bauchi Central.

Before Ningi’s motion, Yahaya Abdullahi, the senator representing Kebbi North, stated that his privilege had been breached due to claims that northern senators were behind the alleged attempt to remove the Senate President.

The Kebbi senator asserted that there had been no attempt by any northern senator to challenge Akpabio’s “good works.”

“I am a northern senator, and my privilege has been breached by these allegations,” he said. “As a senior member of this chamber and a member of the Northern Senators Forum, I can assure you that there has been no attempt that I am aware of by any caucus or group among the northern senators.”

Following Abdullahi’s remarks, Ningi stated that if the senators were dissatisfied with Akpabio’s leadership, they should confront him directly.

“I move that we impose a vote of confidence in you as the Senate President, the Deputy Senate President, and the entire leadership of the National Assembly in this regard,” he said.

Subsequently, Ningi’s proposal was put to a voice vote by Akpabio and was adopted.
