Residents of Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, Northwest Nigeria filed out in cheers after Nigerian troops repelled an early morning attack by members of Boko Haram terrorist group.

The insurgents reportedly stormed the town early and started shooting sporadically around 6:35am, creating tension among residents. The troops however engaged them in a heavy gunbattle which lasted about thirty minutes, forcing them to beat retreat.

A member of the Civilians Joint Task Force said some natives sustained gunshot injuries at Kala, a suburb village near Damboa town. Another source confirmed, “…that Boko Haram insurgents made an attempt this morning but it was not successful, the troops on the ground in Damboa town thwarted it immediately.”

The attack is coming barely six days after an attack that killed a Brigadier general and three other officers of the Nigerian Army in Chibok/Askira Uba in southern Borno.

Although reports are sketchy, information available as of the time of filing this report indicates that at least 8 persons sustained gunshots wounds at Kala village near Damboa town. This attack is the third one in a month in Damboa.
