Nigerian Striker Kelechi Iheanacho to Join Sevilla Following Leicester Departure

Kelechi Iheanacho is set to embark on a new chapter in his football career with a move to Sevilla. The Nigerian international departed Leicester City at the end of the 2023/24 season after his contract with the Foxes expired.

Iheanacho, 27, joined Leicester City in August 2017 from Manchester City for nearly €28 million. During his time with the Foxes, he netted 61 goals and provided 34 assists in 232 appearances.

Despite interest from Ipswich Town, West Ham United, and Aston Villa, Kelechi Iheanacho has opted to leave England. According to transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, the striker is on the brink of signing for Sevilla FC.

The Nigerian forward, now a free agent, is expected to undergo a medical examination on Tuesday or Wednesday, after which he will finalise a long-term contract with the seven-time UEFA Europa League champions.

Iheanacho will join fellow Nigerian Chidera Ejuke at Sevilla. Ejuke, who signed with the Spanish club as a free agent this July after leaving CSKA Moscow, has already made a positive impact. He was named man of the match in Sevilla’s victory at the 13th edition of the Trofeo Antonio Puerta.

Iheanacho’s move marks the end of an era at Leicester, where he leaves behind Super Eagles teammate Wilfred Ndidi, but he is set to forge new successes alongside Ejuke in Spain.
