The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that Terem Moffi, the 24-year-old striker for OGC Nice, will replace the injured forward Victor Boniface in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Terem Moffi, who has scored six goals in the French Ligue 1 this season, was initially left out of the squad when it was named last month, despite featuring in the team’s two previous outings in November. However, the injury to Victor Boniface has led to Moffi’s inclusion in the squad.
Victor Boniface, 23, suffered a groin injury at the Nigerian training camp in Abu Dhabi, forcing him to be ruled out of the AFCON tournament. Boniface is Bayer Leverkusen’s top scorer in the German Bundesliga, having scored 10 goals in 16 league games this season.
This injury setback comes after the withdrawal of midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who sustained an injury in Leicester City’s 2-0 win at Cardiff City on December 29th.
Nigeria is scheduled to play its opening game in Group A on Sunday in Abidjan against Equatorial Guinea.
