A Nigerian Student, Huzaifa Habibu who fled Ukraine due to the Russian invasion has died in Sokoto, Northern Nigeria.
The cause of Habibu’s death is yet to be determined as at the time of filing this report, but his father, Habibu Halilu Modaci, told newsmen that he was evacuated to the hospital after complaining of discomfort and loss of appetite.
The 22-year-old student, who had been studying medicine in Ukraine, was set to graduate next year and had only recently returned to Nigeria.
It was his first visit back to his hometown in three years. Modaci narrated his son’s description of the horrors of the war and the haste with which people attempted to leave Ukraine.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last month, Nigeria has evacuated almost 1,500 of its students.
However, over 100 more people are still stranded in Kherson.
