Following a series of proactive operations, the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army has intercepted several criminal elements including arms traffickers to violent extremists.
The latest operation led to the apprehension of one Joshua Dutse Idah, a notorious gunrunner known for supplying arms and ammunition to criminal elements within Taraba State and environs.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops captured Dutse on January 20, 2024, in Ibi town, Ibi LGA while he was en route to Kaduna State.
A cache of weapons, including a PK Machine Gun, 399 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition, and 3 AK-47 Rifle Magazines were found in his vehicle.
In another operation on January 25, 2024, at Chanchanji, security agents intercepted Janet Igohia while attempting to collect a ransom payment of N1,500,000.00, intended for an abducted victim.
During interrogation, Igohia explained her links with notorious criminals, including her marriage to Voryor Gata, a prominent figure in a violent extremist group operating in southern Taraba.
Also, troops in Mararaba Baissa apprehended two suspected gunrunners, Alhaji Adamu Damisa and Usman Isah, on charges of cattle rustling and extra-judicial killings. A sum of N664,000 naira and two Techno mobile phones were recovered from the suspects.
In a related development, troops of the 20 Model Battalion arrested Malam Muhammadu Shuaibu on February 7, 2024. Shuaibu, a wanted violent terrorist, had been evading capture since the recovery of 3 local guns from his residence in Dakka community in Taraba State.
