Nigerian Troops Neutralise 86, Arrest 101 Terrorists

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, has announced that Nigerian troops have neutralised 86 terrorists and arrested 101 others. He provided this information during a briefing in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, regarding ongoing military operations in various parts of the country.

Major General Buba highlighted that, in the past week, the focus of Nigerian troops has been on conducting air attacks to strike terrorist enclaves and exert significant military power in areas where terrorists are believed to be hiding. Additionally, the troops arrested 30 individuals involved in oil theft and rescued 21 kidnapped hostages.

In the Southern region, the Nigerian troops prevented oil theft, estimated at N736,115,470.00. The operations also led to the recovery of 111 assorted weapons and 1,124 assorted ammunition, including rifles, handguns, ammunition, and other items. The efforts in the Niger Delta area resulted in the discovery and destruction of illegal refining sites, boats, storage tanks, and other facilities associated with criminal activities.

General Buba emphasised that the military operations aim to find and destroy terrorist commanders and their leadership, ensuring their enduring defeat. “The aim of our ongoing operations remains unchanged and clear even in the new year 2024. Our aim is to find and destroy the terrorist wherever they may be hiding in order to ensure their enduring defeat. This would deny the terrorist the ability to terrorise or hurt citizens across country,” he added.

A minute of silence was observed during the briefing to honour officers who lost their lives while defending the country.
