Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, successfully neutralised scores of terrorists in Yar Galadima village, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Northwestern Nigeria, following a distress call from local residents and vigilantes.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 1 December 2024, when troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Hanutara received an alert around 5 a.m. about an ongoing terrorist attack on the village. Responding swiftly, the troops launched a fighting patrol to assist the community and restore peace.
According to a statement by the coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the troops encountered two separate ambushes set up by the terrorists as they advanced towards Yar Galadima. Undeterred, the ambush sites were cleared, resulting in the neutralisation of several terrorists, while others fled the scene.
To bolster the ground operation, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma deployed aircraft for close air support. The fleeing terrorists were targeted during the operation, leading to additional casualties among their ranks.
Operation Fansan Yamma reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating terrorist threats across Zamfara and the broader North West region, including Niger State.
