Tobi Amusan is in her elements and she showed it again in Eugene, Oregon as she blasted to a 12.40s finish in the 100m Hurdles heat 3.
Amusan beat Jamaican former world champion Danielle Williams to set a new record for the continent and will compete in the final where she’s hopeful of picking a medal.
In another event, a rough exchange of batons affected team quadruplet 4x100m relay team of Joy Udo-Gabriel, Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma and Grace Nwokocha as they missed the podium by whiskers in the final.
Team Nigeria came 4th in the race behind the USA, Jamaica and Germany but their 42.22s was enough to set a new African record and break the old record of 42.37s.
Beatrice Utondu, Mary Onyali, Christy Opara and Faith Idehen had set an African record in 1992.
Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro Leap to Finals
The Nigerian duo of Ese Brume and Ruth Usoro both leaped into the final of the Long Jump with Brume needing a special 6.82m to make it through.
Usoro’s qualification was out of the magical as she needed a big leap to advance. She jumped 6.69m to qualify for the final and give Nigeria two representations at the event.
