The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, has encouraged young Nigerians to explore entrepreneurship as a pathway to wealth, pointing to the potential of recycling as an impactful business venture. His remarks came during the launch of Recycling in Nigeria: How to Start and Run a Successful Recycling Business, authored by House member Terseer Ugbor, held in Abuja.
In his speech, delivered by Representative Sekav Dzua Iyortyom, Speaker Abass emphasized that aspiring billionaires should look beyond salary-based jobs.
The Speaker commended Mr. Ugbor, who serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, for his commitment to environmental issues and praised the book for its practical value to students, aspiring entrepreneurs, academics, and policymakers. Speaker Abass also purchased 360 copies of the book for distribution to House members.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, also spoke on the book’s relevance, urging young Nigerians to explore recycling as a viable business.
Highlighting the book’s alignment with sustainable development goals (SDGs), Ugbor expressed his desire to see improved waste management practices across Nigeria, which would support SDG objectives like clean water, resilient communities, sustainable production, and climate action. Ugbor explained that the book draws on 17 years of his experience in waste recycling consultancy and aims to raise awareness about proper waste disposal’s importance to public health and the environment.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, Julius Pondi, and former Minister of State for Environment, Sharon Ikeazor, also praised Ugbor for his dedication to sustainable development and for offering practical guidance through his book.
Titled Recycling in Nigeria: How to Start and Run a Successful Recycling Business, the book is expected to serve as a valuable resource for young Nigerians interested in recycling and sustainable economic growth.
