Nigerians abroad rally behind chess master Tunde Onakoya as he aims to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.
Onakoya kicked off the marathon, sharing the news on his X account with the message “Game time,” and noted the support pouring in from fellow Nigerians.
Among those cheering him on is Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold.
Taking place at New York City’s Times Square, the marathon began at 10 am on Wednesday, April 17, and is set to conclude at 8 pm on April 19.
Onakoya is determined to play for 58 hours straight, aiming to surpass the current record of 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds set by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway in 2018.
