Nigerians Fast Amid Soaring Food Prices

In response to Nigeria’s dire economic and security challenges, numerous residents in the northeastern state of Borno are observing a fast after Governor Babagana Zulum called for “divine intervention.”

Governor Zulum urged citizens to participate in a one-day statewide fast on Monday to address the escalating food prices and the surge in landmine explosions along major roads.

Bello Zabarmari, a resident of Borno State, conveyed to the BBC that he and many others are abstaining from food while fervently praying for divine intervention to resolve their hardships.

“We woke up with a fast today, and hopefully all our prayers will be answered soon. The governor did the right thing by calling on people to fast,” he remarked.

Umar Shehu, another resident employed at the state fire service department, affirmed that he and his colleagues are adhering to the governor’s directive by observing the fast.

Nigeria is currently grappling with one of its most severe economic crises to date, characterised by exorbitant prices of food and essential commodities that have surged in recent months.
