Team Nigeria has secured places at the Paris Olympics in both the mixed 4x400m relay and the men’s 4X400m events.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, the two relay teams clinched automatic qualification spots at the ongoing World Relays in the Bahamas.By finishing second in their heat with a time of 3:13.79, the quartet comprising Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Chidi Okezie, and Esther Elo Joseph ensured Nigeria’s presence on the Olympic stage again for the Mixed Relay.
During the heat, both Nigeria and the US dominated the competition, leaving other competitors behind. It became evident by the third leg that the race was primarily between these two countries.
Chidi Okezie delivered an impressive performance in the third leg with a time of 44.78, handing over the baton in the lead. However, the experienced Olympic gold medalist Kendall Ellis proved too strong for Esther Elo Joseph in the anchor leg, leading the United States to cross the finish line first.
