Nigeria’s 614 km (384 mile) Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline, which is now under construction, will begin operations in the first quarter of 2023, helping to enhance electricity supplies, according to Mele Kyari, the Chairman of national oil giant NNPC.
The Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline began construction in June 2020, with officials saying that when finished, it will generate 3.6 gigawatts of power and serve gas-based businesses along the route.
Speaking at a location where the pipeline runs through Abuja, Kyari said the pipeline was one of the key projects undertaken by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, which has pushed for infrastructure development since taking office in 2015.
“We’ll put gas on this line before the President goes… we’ll put gas on this line in the first quarter of 2023. As a consequence of this project, power will be stabilised, and new industries will emerge “Kyari spoke to the press.
The AKK pipeline goes from Ajaokuta in central Nigeria to Kano in the north of the nation, passing through Kaduna.
Nigeria is Africa’s leading crude oil exporter and possesses some of the world’s largest known gas reserves, but it has failed to attract investment.
