Nigeria’s reported cases of COVID-19 on Sunday crossed the 100,000 mark after a wave of infections saw an increase in number of patients.
Lagos, one of Africa’s worst-struck cities again had the highest number of reported cases at 653, more than half of the total number of cases reported on the day.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Sunday announced 1024 new infections round the country.
In total, Lagos also reported more than 30% of the total number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria. It is the country’s most populous city and state and has the continent’s largest in population.
The worst affected country in the West African subregion, Nigeria announced its first case of COVID-19 in late February.
A harder and more devastating second wave of infections has seen more deaths being recorded, with the total now sitting at 1,358.
More than 80,000 people have recovered from the disease and have been discharged.
Nigeria has tested over 900,000 samples, less than 1% of its population.
