Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, has led a significant military delegation to Sokoto State, the base of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, as part of a broader strategy to combat the escalating banditry in the country.
Dr. Matawalle was joined by prominent military figures, including Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye, and other senior officers. Their visit highlights the government’s increased dedication to restoring order in the North West.
Upon arrival, the Minister and the military chiefs were briefed by Brigadier General Ajose, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander of the Joint Task Force North West Operation Hadarin Daji. They received updates on the current situation, the progress of ongoing military operations, and the strategic measures being implemented to dismantle criminal networks in the region.
Last Friday, Dr. Matawalle issued a directive for the Chief of Defence Staff to expedite the move to Sokoto and oversee the military’s operations against the banditry that has plagued the North West.
During his visit, Matawalle praised the military’s efforts in combating banditry and reiterated the Federal Government’s support for their mission. He assured that all necessary resources would be provided to ensure the mission’s success.
He also highlighted the crucial role of cooperation between the military and local communities in countering the sophisticated tactics used by bandits. Matawalle urged local residents to assist security forces by providing timely and accurate information to facilitate the swift apprehension of criminals.
