Nigeria's Deputy Speaker Advocates Utilising Technology to Empower Youth

The Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu, has urged the leadership of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) to establish a chamber dedicated to fostering socio-economic growth in the nation.

In his address at the inauguration of Dr. Emeka Obegulu as the 12th president of ACCI in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, Mr. Kalu emphasised the importance of prioritising initiatives that harness the potential of technology to empower the youth, who are pivotal drivers of the economy.

“This message also goes to other Chambers of Commerce in the states of the federation, especially the south east, draw up programmes that would include these young ones who are agitating one thing or the other, programmes that would give them that sense of inclusion and teach them skills, expose them to opportunities that would make them have more confidence in themselves to use their brains,” stated Mr. Kalu.

He expressed confidence in Dr. Obegulu’s leadership, highlighting his integrity, wisdom, and commitment to the chamber’s values.

Mr. Kalu assured the support of the House of Representatives in bolstering the country’s economy, affirming that legislative committees on commerce and industry stand ready to aid ACCI’s initiatives.

“Bring up the laws that you think needs legislative interventions to make the life of businesses in Nigeria easier; its time for better business opportunities and business environment in Nigeria,” he emphasised.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Emeka Obegulu outlined his vision for ACCI, emphasising collaboration with the government and stakeholders to influence policy formulation and advance the private sector’s interests.

Dr. Obegulu affirmed that to accomplish the presidency’s goals, the focus would be on capacity building within ACCI, improving management procedures, and fortifying trade groups to extend their influence across diverse economic sectors.
