The Defence Headquarters has swiftly addressed the rumours of a coup plot allegedly looming over Nigeria.

Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, wasted no time in refuting claims circulated by an online media outlet regarding heightened alert within the Presidential Guards Brigade amid suspicions of an impending coup.

“The Defence Headquarters categorically denies these baseless allegations,” stated Brigadier General Gusau, emphasising the unsubstantiated nature of the claims.

Highlighting the statutory duty of the Guards Brigade to safeguard the seat of power, General Gusau underscored that maintaining a heightened state of readiness is standard protocol for such responsibilities. Furthermore, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Armed Forces to uphold democracy, dismissing any notions of subversion.

The Defence Headquarters condemned these unfounded assertions, labelling them as mere fabrications intended to sow discord and panic among the populace.

Urging relevant security agencies to take decisive action against the originators of these rumours, the Defence Headquarters vowed to pursue legal avenues to address what it deems as an unpatriotic act by Sahara Reporters.

As Nigeria stands at a critical juncture, the Defence Headquarters‘ unequivocal stance serves as a beacon of reassurance, affirming its dedication to upholding the rule of law and preserving the democratic fabric of the nation.
