Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu has adjourned the collation of results for the Nigerian Presidential Elections till 11 am on Monday.
This was shortly after the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ekiti, Ayobami Salami read out state results at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Yakubu said the commission awaits the results of the other 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The INEC boss said the collation centre for the 2023 Nigeria Elections will be open throughout the day and will only take pauses for short breaks.
On election results, the INEC Chairman cautioned political parties to only use figures from INEC which is the only authorised body to do so.
“I appeal to all political parties and media organisations to draw their figures only from the official results released by the commission as the only body constitutionally responsible for releasing official election figures,” Yakubu stated.
Official INEC results from Ekiti state states that Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 210,494 votes followed by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 89,554 votes.
Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) polled 11,397 votes and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) polled 264 votes.
18 candidates are vying for the position of the next Nigerian President, however, political analysts have described the contest as a four-horse race between the PDP, LP, APC and the NNPP.
Meanwhile, the commission’s Information and Voter Education Committee Chairman, Festus Okoye, assured Nigerians that the election results cannot be tampered with.
Okoye said the results from the polling units are safe on both the Bimodal Verification Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
He was reacting to issues raised on the portal’s effectiveness during the 2023 Nigerian General Elections on Saturday.
