Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, stated that as of July 27, 2024, electricity generation had peaked at 5,105 megawatts, marking a three-year high.
Adelabu announced this during the Inter-Ministerial Power Sector Working Group meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.
He emphasised that the increase to 5,105mw in electricity generation was significant compared to the previous 4,000mw.
He also restated the country’s aim to achieve 6000mw in electricity generation and transmission by December 2024.
“Just a few days ago, on July 27, we successfully generated and transmitted 5,105MW of power, the highest in the last three years. This is an improvement from the previous capacity of around 4,000MW or below.
“Our target is to achieve a landmark generation and transmission of 6,000MW by December,” he stated.
The most recent information from Generation Companies(GenCos) indicates that Nigeria’s power supply decreased by 668.5mw, dropping from 5,105mw to a peak of 4,436.50mw as of August 5, 2024.
