Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has provided financial support to 250 elderly citizens in Oyo State through her Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS).
The initiative hopes to improve the wellbeing of senior citizens across Nigeria, particularly during the festive season.
During the event held on Tuesday, Mrs Tinubu was represented by Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, the wife of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
She explained that the scheme targets elderly citizens aged 65 and above, covering all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA).
“A total of One Billion, Nine Hundred Milion Naira (N1,900,000,000) will be disbursed across the nation.
“The RHI Coordinators in the 36 States of the federation, the FCT and DEPOWA have received N50,000,000 each, out of which N200,000 will be distributed today to each beneficiary. In addition to this, free medical check-ups and other sundry items will be provided,” she disclosed.
Mrs Tinubu urged the elderly to prioritise their health by eating well, staying hydrated, exercising lightly, and resting adequately. She also encouraged them to spend time with loved ones and focus on activities that bring happiness during the celebrations.
