Nigeria's Former Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu Urges Patience with Government

Orji Uzor Kalu, the former Senate Chief Whip and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, has called on Nigerians to exercise patience with the federal government, stating that more time is needed to address the country’s challenges in the best interest of the citizenry.

Senator Kalu conveyed this message while responding to journalists’ questions following a New Year visit to the Ebonyi State chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, at his residence in Ekoli-Edda.

He appealed to the public to grant the Federal Government additional time to reorganise the nation’s economy, acknowledging the current hardships faced by the people. Senator Kalu stressed that the ongoing period is one of transformation, with the APC government working towards fixing the economy for the benefit of the populace.

“People are suffering, and we understand that. I want Nigerians to understand where the federal government is going. It is a period of transformation for the APC government to get the economy fixed in the interest of our people,” emphasised Kalu.

Continuing his statement, he urged Nigerians to be patient and give the Federal Government two to three more years. He likened the current phase to President Tinubu cutting the cloth to be sewn, emphasising the necessity of shaping the cloth for proper sewing.

“Nigerians should be patient with Federal Government and give two to three more years. The stage we are now is that President Tinubu is still cutting the cloth that he wants to sew, and you know that a cloth must be cut to shape for it to be well sewn.”

Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s focus and commitment to the task of repositioning Nigeria’s economy, emphasising the need for time and patience on the part of citizens.

Addressing the 2024 budget, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu asserted that the National Assembly should not be blamed for any shortcomings in the budget. He highlighted the importance of allocating funds for the national census in 2023, emphasising the potential loss of N289 billion if not budgeted for.

In addition, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu encouraged Nigerian youths to become agents of positive change by avoiding social vices and actions that could jeopardise the peace and security of the country. He emphasised that meaningful development is unattainable without peace and security.
