Nigeria’s independent petroleum marketers have said they have no intention of raising the PMS price across the country.
This was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Okanlawon Olanrewaju, during an interview on Thursday.
“As far as the independent marketers are concerned, we don’t have plans or plans to increase fuel pump price
“There is no basis for that for now. There is no signal from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) that we should increase. So, we cannot do that on our own except NNPC comes out and says we are going to increase pump price. On our own, there is nothing like that.
IPMAN made the statement amidst speculations of PMS price hike due to the increase in petrol subsidy due to the Naira/dollar exchange rate and the cost of crude oil in the international market.
The petroleum marketers had recommended that PMS should be sold at N1,200 per litre in the open market.
Despite the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited ruling out the prospect of another PMS price increase on Wednesday, most Nigerians have begun panic buying.
The IPMAN’s PRO however guaranteed that petroleum marketers cannot raise fuel prices on their own until instructed to do so by NNPCL.
