Nigeria’s Isau Ogunkunle, Africa’s last hope in the para table tennis competition, has secured a place in the semi-finals in Paris after a remarkable 3-1 victory over France’s Thomas Maxime. Ogunkunle, who remains focused on claiming the top spot, is eagerly anticipating the challenges ahead in the competition.
Ogunkunle’s impressive performance in the ongoing Paralympics continues as he advances in the men’s Singles Class 4 Para-Table Tennis category. His quarter-final win saw him overcome Maxime Thomas, a triple Paralympic bronze medalist and home favourite. Despite losing the first set, Isau Ogunkunle staged a strong comeback, winning 3-1 (9-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-6). This marks his second triumph against a top-seeded player in the tournament.
Before his impressive run in Paris, Ogunkunle’s best Paralympic finish was reaching the quarter-finals at the Tokyo 2021 Games. Now, he is set to compete in his first-ever Paralympic semi-final, continuing his remarkable journey.
