A spokesperson for Labour Party, Ndi Kato while speaking on News Central TV on Saturday said the party has no hands in the growing calls for instituting an interim government in the country
On Wednesday, the Department of State Services (DSS) announced that there were plans by certain persons to install an interim government.
DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya in a statement said some key players in the plan have been identified.
Kato said it was disappointing to hear the DSS speak in this manner, suggesting people were plotting insurrection and described the development as some sort of conspiracy.
“No Opposition party has suggested that an Interim government be put in place, rather we insist that the integrity of the courts of the land must be tested. The strength and the integrity of the electoral system has to be tested,” she said.
She says, no one should be afraid that the opposition party is heading to the court. Kato said all these statements are mere distractions.
In her response to the assumption that LP members are the ones calling for institution of interim government, Kato said: “…It is quite unfortunate, what I am noticing is there’s been a woeful attempt to paint Obidients as agents of destabilisation, because of how strong this movement is, because of how people have dedicated their energies to it…and because of the political awakening the obedient movement has caused and because of the many Nigerians are on our side, the powers that be are very much afraid .”
She derided the APC youth leader’s speech on national TV speaking about threats to his life, and him feeling endangered.
“This is the same person who was deeply involved in the push for violence in Lagos…I think such people are throwing stones at others and simply hiding their hands and causing distractions and trying to paint a solid political movement in a bad light”
Kato insisted that the Obidient movement is not known for violence and refuses to be painted as such.
She reiterated that the Labour Party is in court and shall pursue the case to its logical conclusion. Kato said, the party was in no way trying to overturn the government, and they are not interested in pushing the country into the path of danger.
“Our presidential candidate Peter Obi has insisted again and again that we shall take this process in a calm way through the judiciary…and we are in court, to test the strength of the judiciary. All other forms of protests have been peaceful and we intend to get our mandate right”
