The Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau said the Nigerian army is investigating a video clip in circulation showing men in military gears engaging with bandits somewhere in Katsina State.
According to a statement released by the Defence Headquarters, the “DHQ is investigating the video to confirm its authenticity as regards the soldiers seen in uniform.”
He said the DHQ is aware of the willingness of some bandits to repent and hand over their arms to the authority.
General Gusau noted that “this is yielding good results and is ongoing.”
The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa assured Nigerians that “the Armed Forces of Nigeria will engage in every lawful means possible to ensure peace and stability reign in our dear nation.”
The DHQ reassured Nigerians that its non-kinetic approach aimed at the restoration of peace is yielding results, with several bandits and other miscreants surrendering to authority.
The bandits are encouraged to genuinely surrender while the window is still open.
The Defence Headquarters urged citizens to remain calm, law-abiding and offer useful information for the interception of unscrupulous elements in the region.
In September, the armed forces said its tropps neutralised 151 terrorists, apprehends 456 and seized several ammunition across various operations in the country.
