The Saudi Arabian Embassy in Nigeria has begun discussions with Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) to host four television channels on the NigComSat-1R satellite. This initiative aims to enhance media collaboration and expand broadcasting capabilities through advanced satellite technology.
During a visit to the NIGCOMSAT Ground Control Station on Friday, Mohammed Alsahabi, the Saudi Embassy’s Head of Media, met with NIGCOMSAT officials, including Abiodun Attah, Executive Director of Technical Services, who represented the Managing Director and CEO, Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen.
In a statement, Aisha Bantam, Head of Corporate Affairs at NIGCOMSAT, emphasised the shared commitment to strengthen cultural ties and improve access to diverse content in Nigeria and beyond. Hosting Saudi Arabian channels on NigComSat-1R will support the delivery of high-quality programming while promoting cultural exchange between the two nations.
Mohammed Alsahabi noted the strong historical and cultural connections between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria, highlighting the significance of this collaboration in providing valuable media content.
Representing NIGCOMSAT, Attah reaffirmed the organisation’s dedication to partnerships that promote connectivity across Africa. Hosting international channels aligns with NIGCOMSAT’s vision of becoming a regional leader in satellite services.
Both parties are set to continue discussions to finalise the technical and operational details, with the goal of launching the channels soon. This initiative is seen as a major step in enhancing media diversity and fostering international collaboration within Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
