The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled several individuals from the party at its 566th meeting on February 10, 2023.
The members were expelled, for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities and violating the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).
According to a statement signed by PDP Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba National, the individuals who were expelled are:
Senator Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu State) and Hon. Chris Ogbu (Imo State).
Others include:
Ajijola Lateef Oladimeji (Ekiti Central), Olayinka James Olalere (Ekiti Central II), Fayose Oluwajomiloju John (Ekiti Central I), Akerele Oluyinka (Ekiti North I), and Emiola Adenike Jennifer (Ekiti South II).
The expulsion is effective as of February 10, 2023 and was based on the recommendation of the National Disciplinary Committee and in accordance with sections 58 and 59 (1)(g) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).
It further added that the PDP “encourages all its members to remain united and dedicated to the party’s mission of rescuing, rebuilding, and redirecting the nation from misrule”.
In his reaction, Enugu East Senator Dr Chimaroke Nnamani has pointedly told Senator Iyorchia Ayu led National working Committee(NWC) that it has no powers to suspend or expel him from the party.
Senator Nnamani, through his Counsel Olusegun O. Jolaawo SAN stated that the NWC has no powers to suspend or expel him except the National Executive Committee ( NEC).
