The screening of aspirants for the 2023 elections has been rescheduled by Nigeria’s main Opposition Party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

News Central had on April 26 reported that the Party was going to conduct its Presidential Primaries at the end of May.

The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which was originally set for May 5, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 10.

Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s National Secretary, made the announcement in a statement.

He said that the earlier date interfered with the local government delegate elections, which he stated were open to all party members, and that he apologized for any inconveniences.

The meeting will take place in the National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, according to Anyanwu.

Similarly, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) delayed all aspirants for governorship and president’s screening appeal from Tuesday, May 3 to Wednesday, May 4.

The party, in a separate statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba, in Abuja on Monday night, said that the adjustment in date was occasioned by the Eid-Fitir celebration.

“The NWC apologises for any inconveniences this change in date might have caused,” Ologunagba said.

It is pertinent to mention that on April 29, the PDP disqualified two of the 17 presidential aspirants seeking its ticket to contest the 2023 national polls .

The two disqualified aspirants shall forfeit the N40 million each of them paid for the expression of interest and nomination forms.
