Nigeria’s Opposition PDP To Screen Vice Presidential Candidate on Thursday (News Central TV)

Nigeria’s main opposition party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has put together a committee to screen its vice presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election on Thursday June 16.

Even though the party is yet to officially unveil the vice presidential candidate, it is believed that Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike is favourite to clinch the position.

However, Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary of the main opposition party, said in a statement that the committee was formed in accordance with Part VI, Paragraph 14 of the Party’s Electoral Guidelines.

According to Ologunagba, the National Working Committee (NWC) has approved the nomination of Party members to serve on the Vice Presidential Candidate Screening Committee, which will screen/verify our Party’s nominated Vice Presidential Candidate for the 2023 general elections.

According to him, the screening exercise will take place on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Chief Tom Ikimi is expected to chair the committee, which will also include Capt. Idris Wada (rtd), Chief Osita Chidoka, Rt. Hon. Binta Bello, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara, Prof. Aisha Madawaki, and H.E. Fidelis Tapgun.

Former Nigeria’s vice president Atiku Abubakar was elected on May 28 as the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in the next general elections for the second time in a row.

He won the election with 371 votes with the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, coming second with 237 votes.

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki came a distant third with 70 votes. The chief returning officer of the 2023 electoral committee declared Atiku Abubakar as the winner stating that the total votes cast as 763, 12 Void votes, Valid votes 731.
