Nigeria’s Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the elevation of 27 senior police officers, including 11 Commissioners of Police promoted to Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG) and 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police promoted to the full rank of Commissioners of Police.
The recently promoted officers arrived at the Commission’s Headquarters on Monday to undergo written and oral assessments.
The PSC chairman, Hashimu Argungu stressed the need for officers of the Nigeria Police Force to actively seek improvements and familiarise themselves with global best practices, including technological proficiency.
The list of 11 Commissioners of Police who were promoted to Assistant Inspectors General of Police includes Umar Shehu Nadada, Commissioner of Police for Nasarawa State; Mustapha Mohammed Bala, Commissioner of Police for Rivers State; Abayomi Peter Oladipo, Commissioner of Police for Ondo State; Taiwo Olatunde Adeleke, Commissioner of Police for SWAT, FCID, Abuja; Ibrahim Abdullahi, mni, Commissioner of Police for Kaduna State; and Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, Commissioner of Police for PPP, DLS, Force Headquarters Abuja.
Additionally, Akinwale Kunle Adeniran, Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State; Zubairu Abubakar, Commissioner of Police for Courses at the Police Staff College in Jos; Fom Pam Joseph, Commissioner of Police for Homicide, FCID Abuja; Emuobo Fred Ekokotu, Commissioner of Police for Admin, Airwing Abuja; and Garba Musa Yusuf, Deputy Commandant at the Police Staff College in Jos were also promoted.
The 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police who were promoted to the substantive rank of Commissioners include: Kayode Ojapinwa, DC, SCID, FCT; Emmanuel Ighodalo, DC, ZCID, Zone 8, Lokoja; Bose Funmi Akinyemi, DC SEB, FCID Annex, Lagos; Barayimil Ahmadu Samaila, DC, DFA, Kogi State; Martin Nwogoh, DC, DFA, Zone 2, Lagos; Shetima Jauro Mohammed, DC, SCID, Nasarawa State; Ibrahim Gotan, DC, DFA Zone 2 Bauchi; Rabiu Mohammed, DC Ops, Zone 3, Yola; Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola, DC, SCID, Ekiti State; and Adepoju Olugbenga Adewale, DC Ops, Rivers State.

DIG Taiwo Lakanu, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Police Promotions, conducted a thorough oral interview with the officers and encouraged them to focus on the responsibilities of their new positions.
Lakanu urged the officers to strive to perform at their best in service and assured them that the Commission would continue to ensure that promotions were prompt and based on merit.
