Ahead of Nigeria’s national polls on February 25, President Muhammadu Buhari has signed an executive order for a transition team to usher in a new government after the forthcoming general elections.

“The new executive order puts in place a legal framework for the seamless transition of power from one presidential administration to another,” he said.

In a statement, yesterday, in Abuja, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, announced the names of the members of the council, which he meant to chair.

Members of the council are the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation; Director General, National Intelligence Agency; Director General, State Security Services; Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice; National Security Adviser; Chief of Defence Staff; Inspector-General of Police; and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Buhari, 80, is serving his last term in office, as he is constitutionally barred from running again in the elections. Nigeria’s next president is expected to be sworn in on May 29, 2023.
