President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded Chief Bisi Akande as a committed democrat, a die-hard progressive, and a prudent and compassionate leader. He commended Akande for his outstanding contributions to democratic governance and progressive politics in Nigeria during the 85th birthday ceremony of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain.
President Tinubu praised Chief Bisi Akande for bringing honor and integrity to his role as the Interim Chairman of the APC. He acknowledged benefiting immensely from Akande’s knowledge and perspectives on various issues affecting Nigeria and the western part of the country.
Chief Bisi Akande, who served as the Governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003, was described by the President as a dutiful leader who achieved tremendous success in his service to the people of Osun State. Turning 85 is seen as a landmark achievement deserving celebration, and President Tinubu expressed gratitude to God for giving the nation such an eminent leader.
The President highlighted Akande’s consistent presence in various political transitions, from the defunct Alliance for Democracy to Action Congress, Action Congress to Action Congress of Nigeria, and currently, the governing All Progressives Congress. Tinubu acknowledged Akande’s courage and commitment to democratic and progressive ideals, praising him as a reliable and dependable compatriot.
Chief Bisi Akande has been an influential figure in Nigerian politics, playing a role in the political revolution since the Second Republic and contributing to the drafting of the 1979 constitution, which served as a foundation for the amended 1999 constitution currently in use.
