Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a rallying cry to all Nigerians, both at home and abroad, urging them to unite in support of the Super Eagles and to amplify their voices in encouragement. He calls for a collective surge of national pride to propel the team to victory.
In a statement released on Saturday and signed by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, President Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead a presidential delegation to the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Côte d’Ivoire.
Recognising the unifying force of football and the vital role of the Super Eagles in fostering national cohesion, President Tinubu views Vice President Shettima’s presence at the finals as a demonstration of the government’s unwavering support for the team and its commitment to their triumph.
Vice President Shettima had previously represented the President at the semi-finals, witnessing the Super Eagles’ thrilling victory over South Africa.
As the Nigerian national team prepares to face host nation Côte d’Ivoire at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Sunday, February 11, anticipation runs high, reigniting memories of Nigeria’s earlier triumph in the group stage, clinched through Captain William Troost-Ekong’s decisive penalty.
