Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dissolved all party structures – at the national, zonal and state levels.

Governor of Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria, Mallam Nasir El-rufai made the disclosure in Abuja after the meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party.

Earlier in the year, the APC had internal wrangling for months, which led to the initial dissolution of the party executives. A caretaker/extraordinary convention planning committee was set up and Governor of Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria, Mai Mala-Buni was named its Chairman.

As part of the resolutions reached by the NEC of the party, Mr Mala-Buni’s tenure has been extended by another six months.

A Vice Chairman of the party in Southern Nigeria, Hilliard Eta was also expelled from the party for the violation of the NEC’s regulations.

Mr Eta was accused of failing to withdraw a lawsuit he filed against the party.

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari was present at the NEC meeting.
