Six people have been confirmed dead, with 15 others suffering varying degrees of injuries, at Sekona on the Ogbomoso-Odo-Oba road in Oyo State’s Ogo Oluwa Local Government Area, Nigeria.
The crash, involving a commercial bus and a trailer, occurred on Sunday evening.
In addition, an Okada rider lost his life on Monday morning when he collided with a stopped car near Ote on the Ogbomoso-Ilorin road in the Surulere Local Government Area, Nigeria.
According to eyewitnesses, all of the victims were adult males, and their bodies had been taken to the mortuary at the Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital while the injured were taken to the Bowen University Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso for treatment.
Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the commercial bus with 21 passengers on board and the trailer were heading North before the incident happened.
Seun Fakorede, one of the witnesses, stated, “The accident happened on Sunday night. The bus driver was attempting to overtake the trailer at that sharp corner when he suddenly lost control and collided with it. All of a sudden, the bus veered off the road and somersaulted almost five times. Five people died instantly. Others were quickly rushed to the hospital by the road safety officials.”
Isaac Adebayo, the Ogbomoso Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the two incidents on Monday, saying, “The incident happened Sunday evening around 17:00 hours.” Five died immediately. My people have gone there this morning. I just confirmed from him that another person died at the hospital, making it six altogether.
“Also, my people have to go to another rescue on the Ilorin road this morning.” At Gbede, near Ote, an Okada rider collided with another trailer. He also died. “That is all I have gotten so far,” he explained.
