Bayer Leverkusen and Nigerian striker Victor Boniface shared photos and videos on Sunday, revealing the aftermath of a car accident, including his damaged vehicle.
In the footage, Boniface appears with blood on his arm, looking directly at the camera. The post, which has since been deleted, showed a black sports car severely wrecked in the crash.
German outlet Bild reported that Boniface is “doing well under the circumstances” and only sustained minor injuries, citing a source close to the player.
Boniface expressed gratitude on social media, writing, “God is the greatest” and “God says my time hasn’t come.”
Leverkusen has not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
The 23-year-old striker, who joined the club last season, was instrumental in their historic unbeaten Bundesliga and cup double and earned his first call-up to the Nigerian national team.
So far this season, Boniface has scored seven goals in 10 appearances across all competitions. In Saturday’s match, despite missing a penalty, he scored the decisive goal in a 2-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Leverkusen are set to face French side Brest in the Champions League on Wednesday.
