Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has called on development partners to provide additional support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to effectively implement its Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Vice President emphasised the need for support in priority areas such as e-mobility, job creation, agriculture, food security, and the power sector to address challenges, including security issues related to terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry.
Vice President Shettima made these remarks during a meeting on Monday with the Global Managing Director of the Tony Blair Institute (TBI), Mr. Michael McNair, who paid a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Highlighting the Tinubu administration’s commitment to delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda, Vice President Shettima stressed the importance of translating words into action, stating, “It is easy to talk, but how to walk the talk is the most important component of leadership.”
In an effort to deepen the deployment and use of e-vehicles for public transportation, the Vice President urged TBI to contribute its expertise in enhancing the adoption of e-mobility technology in Nigeria. He specifically sought TBI’s perspective and input on global best practices in this regard.
Vice President Shettima commended TBI’s partnership with Nigeria, particularly in areas such as job creation, agriculture, food security, and support for the power sector through the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC). He emphasised that improving the quality of governance is crucial in addressing the challenges posed by Nigeria’s growing population.
Michael McNair, the Global Managing Director of TBI, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s leadership. He expressed TBI’s commitment to supporting growth and development in Nigeria, stating that the organisation is ready to deploy additional resources to achieve the set objectives.
Other attendees at the meeting included TBI’s Regional Director, Anglophone West & Central Africa, Ope-Oluwa Adejoro; TBI’s Country Director for Nigeria, Joy Dariye; and senior executives Ahmed Ibrahim and Victor Adamu.
