Nigeria’s Zannah Mustapha Named Among Top 10 CNN Heroes 2021

Africans, home and abroad have continued to congratulate Zannah Mustapha who was named among top 10 CNN Heroes 2021 for making the world a better place.

Mustapha’s recognition is based on the humanitarian support he is providing to victims of Boko Haram on the streets of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state and the heart of the Boko Haram insurgency. Despite threats of terrorism, kidnapping, murder and threats against schools in the north, Zannah Mustapha has been educating children while also helping thousands of widows.

Zannah Mustapha is a humanitarian and a mediator per excellence who played a critical role in the release of the 103 kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls. As a philanthropist, he possesses the heart to help and contribute to the advancement of humanity proven by his Foundation’s more than a decade continual support for children orphaned by the insurgency.

Zannah Mustapha and the students of the Future Prowess School he founded for children caught up in the Boko Haram conflict. This week he won a U.N. prize for his efforts.

He founded Future Prowess Islamic Foundation School in 2007 and since then, providing free education to over 3,000 orphans and other unprivileged children in Maiduguri, Nigeria. The students come from families of both Boko Haram rebels and government security soldiers.

His works and contribution have been recognized by local and international watchers. Aside winning many awards, he was a finalist for the Robert Burns Humanitarian Award (2016), won the World Humanitarian Award (2016) and UNHCR’s Annual Nansen Award (2017).
