According to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), there will be dust haze across the country from Monday through Wednesday.
A moderate dust haze with a visibility range of 2 to 5 km was forecast for Monday in the northern region, according to NiMet’s weather outlook, which was made public in Abuja on Sunday.
Throughout the forecast period, its localised visibility is expected to be less than or equal to 1 km.
Moderate dust haze is predicted for the North Central states over the forecast period, with a visibility range of 2 to 5 km with localised visibility of less than or equal to 1 km.
NiMet predicted significant dust haze with a visibility range of 2 to 5 km during the forecast period, as well as early morning mist or fog in the southern regions of the nation.
“Thick dust haze is predicted for Tuesday throughout the forecast period in the northern region. With a visibility range of 1 to 3 km, the central region should experience moderate dust haze during the predicted period.”
It stated that during the forecast period, “moderate dust haze with visibility range of 1km to 3km is expected over the coastal cities in the southern parts of the country, while early morning mist or fog is anticipated over the coastal cities.”
On Wednesday, NiMet predicts that the northern region will experience a dense dust haze for the duration of the forecast period.
During the expected timeframe, there should be a dense dust haze over North Central.
“In the southern parts of the country, early morning mist or fog are anticipated over the coastal cities while moderate dust haze with visibility range of 1km to 3km is expected throughout the forecast period.
“Dust particles are in suspension, the public should take necessary precautions. People with respiratory disorders, including asthma, should be aware of the current weather,” the statement read.
The organisation advised the public to follow safety recommendations issued by the appropriate authorities and airline operators to obtain weather information (flight documentation) particular to their airports from NiMet to plan their operations effectively.
