NLC Demands Gombe Governor Resign Over N70,000 Minimum Wage Issue

NLC Demands Gombe Governor Resign Over N70,000 Minimum Wage Issue

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has advised governors who cannot afford the new N70,000 minimum wage to resign.

The response was prompted by Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s statement on his administration’s inability to pay the newly approved minimum wage.
According to PUNCH, Governor Yahaya said this during a meeting with labour leaders, civil society organisations, and traders associations at the Government House in Gombe.

In response to the statement by the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Benson Upah, the Head of Public Relations for the NLC, suggested that the governor step down.

“He should quit if he cannot pay. He took an oath of office toGovernors’e law and not to break it,” Upah asserted.

The Trade Union Congress has not officially announced its response to inquiries about the governor’s stance.
