Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has made the final shortlist of candidates for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award. The governing body for African football revealed the top contenders for this prestigious award on Thursday.
The other nominees on the final list include Zambia’s Barbara Banda and Morocco’s Sanna Mssoudy, with a winner to emerge to succeed Asisat Oshoala. The Super Falcons forward has secured the award six times, including the last three years.
No goalkeeper has ever won the title.
Nnadozie, who had an excellent season for club and country, is also in the running to retain her for the Goalkeeper of the Year award after making the final shortlist.
Nnadozie was honoured as the goalkeeper of the season in the 2023/24 French Women’s League, helping Paris FC secure a third-place finish.
The award winner will be announced on December 16 at the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony, which will take place at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakesh, Morocco.
In the men’s category, Stanley Nwabali did not make the final nominees list for the Goalkeeper of the Year award. The Super Eagles goalkeeper was excluded from contention by the trio of Andre Onana, Ronwen Williams, and Yahia Fofana.
