The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced plans to collaborate with reputable Operations and Maintenance firms to manage and maintain the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company.
This announcement was made public in a statement on Friday through the company’s official X handle.
The Warri refinery, located in Delta State, was commissioned in 1978 and operates as a complex conversion refinery with a nameplate distillation capacity of 6,250,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTA), equivalent to 125,000 barrels per day (bpd). The refinery complex includes a petrochemical plant, commissioned in 1988, which has production capacities of 13,000 MTA of polypropylene and 18,000 MTA of carbon black. The refinery primarily serves the southern and southwestern markets of Nigeria.
The Kaduna refinery, commissioned in 1980, was initially built to supply petroleum products to Northern Nigeria with a capacity of 50,000 barrels per day (B/D). In 1983, an additional crude train increased its capacity to 100,000 B/D, dedicated to producing lubricating oils. By 1986, further expansion increased the capacity of the first crude train to 60,000 B/D, bringing the refinery’s total nameplate capacity to 110,000 B/D.
