No Attack on Avu Market— Imo Police

The recent viral video showing the burning of Avu Market by angry protesters is fake news.

In a press release, ASP Henry Okoye, the Imo State Command spokesperson, urged the public to dismiss the video, stating that it was a deliberate attempt by troublemakers to deceive people. He clarified that the video showed an old incident from 2023 when the market caught fire.

He reassured residents of that area about the provided security and requested them to carry on with their legal activities, as the police, in collaboration with other security forces, were vigilant in maintaining the safety of Imo.

ASP Okoye explained that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, instructed the State Intelligence Department to promptly investigate and fish out rumour peddlers.
CP Danjuma admonished residents of Imo State to be cautious when consuming news, especially those that threaten society.
